My beginning oil pastel experience

I finished my very first oil pastel drawings this week. You can find them on my art portfolio, a strawberry and a lily pad pond. I first discovered oil pastels when I was younger, learning about them in art class when I was in elementary school. I recently just remembered how much I enjoyed them, so I bought a well reviewed set off of amazon. I picked up Pentel Arts 36 color oil pastels and a mini art journal with watercolor cotton paper to draw on. As I've been drawing I learned watercolor paper is not the best for oil pastels, but it'll do. I learned how to blend using a q-tip, and the white oil pastel for when I want things to be brightened. I have never taken an art class before, so everything that I am learning is from Reddit or Tiktok or some sort of other online platform. I am struggling with dimensions and shading, I have no clue where shadows are supposed to go. Regardless, I am having so much fun with oil pastels. I would like to eventually pick up watercolor, and oil painting. Before that however I need to get down the basics of drawing.
